How you can help
Cash donations are welcome and quickly put to use. Libros Para Pueblos is funded entirely through private contributions and has no paid employees. We maintain a small cash fund but putting books in the hands of children is our priority.
You can help by referring us to a school or other organization in your state or country that is interested in helping maintain a library. We will set up an interchange relationship between the the group in Oaxaca and the group you refer.
Currently it costs about $1,700 US dollars to start a library with 400 books. Maintaining an existing library takes an average of $600 US dollars a year. Did you know that many great books in Spanish are only available in the USA? Because there is such a huge market for children's and young reader's books they are much less expensive too. The problem is that shipping is too costly for us to take advantage of the more competitive market. If you are willing to carry some books down to Oaxaca when you come to visit, it would help us greatly. Just let us know when you are coming and how much weight you want to carry. We will have the books sent to your home and you can pack them in your suitcase when you come.
